About Cobham
In the ordinary way, this section would outline a company's structure and show you where to join. What you get at Cobham is different: so while we have described some broad career paths, which one you follow stays an open question for life.
Our technology is exciting, and not just for those who create it. Some of our products are using concepts that yesterday were science fantasy, never mind fiction. Others have been years in the making, decades in the perfecting. All of them, and everything we do, have the potential to enhance or ruin our reputation. A habitat like this needs the best from everyone - technical obsessives, habitual problem solvers, insatiable polymaths, born people managers, deal brokers and money makers, everyone.
The way our business is structured allows for enormous variation in terms of team size, style of working, type of activity, product and purpose, with each location making its own particular contribution to the company's overall goals. Within the Cobham Group there are currently four divisions:
- Cobham Avionics and Surveillance
- Cobham Defence Systems
- Cobham Mission Systems
- Cobham Aviation Services
Although such titles can't possibly describe the astonishing variety of work included, grouping the companies within these divisions both makes us more efficient as a business and, critically, creates a whole set of matrices for technology development. What it emphatically does not do is limit in any way the remit of any one division, company or team. If an opportunity emerges to provide a service or solve a problem, we don't let demarcation zones or chains of command get in the way: our culture is one where getting good things done matters far more than whether they fit tidily into some rigid five year plan. Equally, while we do routinely buy best-in-class companies who have specific skills we want, our growth remains largely organic - and very healthy, stimulated by a freedom of action that's rare in a group of our size.
From a career point of view, this means two things. One, we don't put our people on a planned route to a fixed destination. Two, it's a lot more demanding than that: if we take you on, it's because we believe you have the ability to tackle whatever challenges we send your way. Did you want your future shrink-wrapped?
